I cant get that back. do yourself a favor and listen to this advise, you will never get rich driving a truck. and owning a fleet only doubles your trouble.

GPnRI, Swift dinged me on my DAC but funny thing is I kept my MVR spotless. The industry needs to do away with the DAC.

    GPnRI, if you have …
GPnRI, if you have a considerable gap in driving history while keeping busy in another part of the workforce, companies will classify you as having an insufficient work history. That is the problem with companies, they don’t consider prior experience a plus. The entire system is upside down and geared towards slave labor vs. progression.

    because their …
because their insurance carriers are a joke.

    What I mean by …
What I mean by accidents can be anything from denting the side of your trailer to ( as for me ) a car cutting infront of me and clippin my front bumper!

What I see out there now scares the s**t out of me, weaving drivers, drivers who cant even back up a truck, drivers constantly curbing a trailer turning off a 4 lane road onto another 4 lane road? OMG! and they can get a job driving a truck!!?? Just throw experience out the window and hire a rookie!

  17. Comment by GPnRI:

Plus what I see out …
Plus what I see out there now scares the s**t out of me. Atleast I can back up! and not weave all over the road!

    I got 10 years exp. …
I got 10 years exp. in the USA…Only had 1 accident, not my fault, was cut off, I been looking now for 9 years to get back on the road, no companies are hiring, and I know that other drivers have accidents too, how are they still working and I cannot? I have now gave up my CDL “A” lic. No wonder theres a trucker shortage!!! They only give ya 1 chance!! Driving on the road 24/7 a accident will happen eventually, its unavoidable!

    I hear that I have …
I hear that I have about a million and a half miles about half truck and half taxi with no accidents and only ever one ticket (not signaling a lane change) from 1995. What am I doing now? The only thing I could find delivering papers to paper boys and stores but on the plus side I get paid pretty good and I get to use my half ton so no log books and I can expence personal vehicule.

    Swift did get me …
Swift did get me into Canada though and to other parts of the U.S. So I had my fun at the least seeing what I wanted to see. Sorry to hear about your situation though. I’ve lost track of my miles driven professionally and non-professionally. My truck driving skills did enhance my over driving skills and that assisted me greatly when applying that to my telecom drive test routes in major cities. The trucking gives you that sixth sense where you learn to just back it off and take your time.

    some drivers have …
some drivers have their dedicated routes and that works for them. I was more OTR and did try other areas of the trucking industry and even local driving. Best job I ever had was with Matheson Postal doing seasonal work which paid about $1000/wk for 7 day work week and 8 hour shifts. That was nice. From who I’ve talked to, nowadays it could be better to stay local or regional or dedicated and deliver gasoline, soda, or beer. Get paid hourly instead of by the mile.

  23. Comment by X23109:

    that is exactly why …
that is exactly why I didn’t make a career out of it with Swift as I saw the warning signs and just switched fields given what I went through. I do maintain my CDL, but it is really a last resort. I’m think I’ll have a few options down the line, but have to keep working as a temp. a little while longer until the right positions open as I do have computer experience, office experience, telecom experience, and professional driving under my belt now. Something Swift could care less about.
